PhotoShop and Illustrator for Fashion Merchandising
Week 4
MidTerm and Final Projects:
Your mid term projects are due!
In class project will be to create a mixed-media project using Photoshop and watercolor paints.
- Water color tinted illustrations
- In photoshop, open the image. The image should have well defined lines and tonal range
- Image>Adjustments>Desaturate
- Filter> Stylize> Find Edges
- Image>Adjust>Brightness and Contrast
- Add contrast so that the lines are well defined and there is a little background texture. You may need to adjust brightness.
A successful image will have clearly defined shapes and edges with larger areas that will receive the watercolor. The effect is based on successfully merging color, line and texture. Images that include faces work well because there is an interesting contrast between the photographic detail in the faces and the masses of color in background, etc.
The essence of this project is experimentation, so have fun and make 4-5 images.
Of course you can do the same thing in Photoshop using filters.
Step 1 - open image
Open an image in Photoshop.

Step 2 - set filter
Select Filter > Artistic > Smudge Stick with the following settings:
Stroke Length =0
Highlight Area=20
Intensity=10

Step 3 - create a background matt
Add a new layer in the Layer Tab, draw a rectangle with a white color and add shadow to this layer; this new layer must be below the layer that contains the picture:

Add a small border to the rectangle, if you want, using the Layer > Layer Style > Drop Shadow.
